Saint John River, September 24, 2007

I revisited the site where Ian and Jamie Campbell retrieved 22 tires earlier this month, behind the Devon Park Mini-mall. The water is much lower now, and there are still dozens of tires in the mud flats and adjacent shoreline area.

I could have spent all day there, but believe it or not, I do have a life.

Maybe our little gang can get together some weekend this fall and haul out a truckload while the water's still low.

Yeah, my official Tire-Free Rivers tee shirt got wicked muddy. But that's what it's for, it's honest dirt.

Number 73
Number 73 lay in the little brook up on the shoreline.
Number 74
Number 74 was in the river, out past the delta of the stream.
Number 75
Number 75 had to say goodbye to a couple of rubber buddies who were left behind for the next time.
Number 76
Number 76 came with an obliging hole on one end which helped me greatly in swishing and scraping out the mud.

I didn't use my canoe to fetch these tires. The access was a path behind the mall down to the river bank.

The insert shows a magnification of the tires in the water, two of many still lurking close by.
